OWN BUSINESSES and OTHER ENDEAVOURS
MFS – Library and medical practitioner systems, film financing - Jan 1989 to Nov 1991
I formed MFS with two partners to sell and support Microfusion Library Systems, we also provided finance for the first Yoram Gross Blinky Bill animation and transition of CASEG Medical System to one of the original authors. Due to the changes in business objectives I went back to my solo consulting in Queensland with the Library System until invited by IBM in 1999 to come to Canberra for the DoFA QSP project.
MicroFusion Library Systems – 1979 to 1991- Systems Design, development
I formed a partnership with a mathematics professor and an expert PICK programmer to develop a full delivery library system suitable for schools and local councils. The MicroFusion Library System subsequently gained preferred software status in State Education Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales; selling 45 systems at a sale price range of $25,000 to $120,000 per system. It also sold to seven local council libraries. This business was merged into MFS.
GPS Systems – Jan 1979 to Dec 1983 – Sales and implementation
I gained the rights for the sales and implementation of the CASEG General Practitioner Medical Accounting system across New South Wales and Queensland. During that period I sold 183 systems for an average value of $12,600 each including implementation and training. I then sold the rights back to one of the authoring orthopaedic surgeons who retired from active surgery and wanted a hobby in Queensland.
Trash & Treasure Markets – Feb 1974 to Aug 1978 – Co-owner - Australia’s first commercial charity / consumer markets
In 1973 I wanted a break from IT and founded Trash and Treasure Markets in Australia with a partner. At the end of 1978 I sold my share to his partner after a 9 month illness due to food poisoning; at that stage 18 markets were operational throughout Australia with a nett turnover of $3.5M pa.
Key cutting and Engraving - Jan 1965 to Jan 1966
From leaving school in 1964 I was employed by the ES&A Bank for 12 months and then opened my own small business with a key cutting and engraving booth under the ground floor escalators at the Grace Bros store Chatswood. I sold this to move into IT at the start of 1966.
